I have been to this place a few times. I usually head down on a Saturday when they have an outdoor setup making pork sandwiches as well as other sandwiches. It's hit or miss depending on who makes the sandwiches. One saturday, my sandwich was outstanding with lots of pork, another time I think they forgot to put the pork in. They do have some pretty good Italian food in the deli, but they are not cheap. A so-so place for me.

This place is a business designed to price gouge the shopper. The prices on the deli board are "half pound" of meat, so you order it then it's double the price that you thought it was. Clever. The baked goods are 12-13$ for a container of cookies. Wow! Are they made of 14k gold? The quality is good, but it's one of those businesses where it's entire business model is to overcharge older people. Nothing about the selection, quality, or prices makes it worth supporting. Certainly, I've never had something from here and been impressed by it. Maybe the rolls, which are fresh. But they're brought in from another bakery in the Philly area. Some of the other reviews on here say the same things, because they're unfortunately all too true.

Over salted old Italian sitting in sauce forever recipes.... Take out dinners overpriced sitting out at room temperature and you pay for skin on fish, extra heavy toppings and again way too much salt. This used to be good but they need to update the recipes and make them fresh and healthier. If you want your great grand moms saturated soggy deep fried, over sautéed food. This is the place to go...... sorry L&G. Step into this century and lose the salt and frying

3.5 stars is just about right for the food (long lines notwithstanding) I purchased at the Media Italian Festival. It was a gorgeous day and turnout was high so the pork was nearly gone, but I was able to buy a platter with 2 meatballs and a Chicken Cutlet with broccoli rabe for $8.00. Tasty for "festival" food. Need better menus and signage to facilitate the line.

If you're craving Italian food or don't feel like cooking on a weeknight, this is the place to pick up some of the best prepared Italian dishes. Luigi and Giovanni have killer vegetarian lasagna, eggplant parm, roasted garlic asparagus, and salmon of any kind. Definitely stop by here to pick up some food, and check out the store itself for other Italian goods from pastas, chocolates, and beverages.

A little disappointed lately... The take out has been sup par recently.. Thought it was a fluke in December when I paid $80 for an antipasta that was lettuce , a few pieces of cheese a little bit of meat .. Not worth the money.. Then potato salad was rancid .. Pepperoni bread almost hollow and signature roasted peppers ( house made) that also were old and acidly... Not wasting anymore money

Multiple issues with our Christmas meal. 1. The baked ziti was simply boiled penne with gravy and some mozzerella cheese on top thrown in the oven not baked ziti which we expected to be penne with ricotta. It was disappointing. No reason to pay $40 for $5 worth of food. 2. We ordered 3 medium pans, the penne, chicken marsala and chicken with rabe. According to the menu this should have been enough for 60 people. It barely fed 29 people. If we did not have our own meatballs and ham we would have run out of food. And we had 29 people and that includes kids. People at the party actually think that we did not get all our food because we were almost out of food and we had 29 people and we paid for 60 people. There is nothing more embarissing then running out of food. Plus we expected leftovers for a day or 2 and there are none. 3. Food was good not great, meaning the quality of the food did not make up for #'a 1 and 2. So for catering I cannot recommend it.

My mother's co-worker recommended Luigi & Giovanni as caterers for our wedding. My husband went to pick up samples of the food (arranged ahead on the phone with no mention of a fee), and they actually charged him for the samples. Really? They had no set protocol for wedding sampling; had there been a fixed plate with house specialties or wedding-type fare for a modest fee, whose price was presented over the phone (so we had the choice to agree to it, or take a hint that these were not the elite professionals we had been told they were) then that would have been remotely good business. But instead, they served us up an a-la-carte, unceremonious, unappetizing plastic sandwich carton of yuk, and charged for it. I didn't need 2 pounds of pasta to decide if I liked it, I needed a BITE! Anywhere else we sampled anything it was free. Ridiculous. Since there were no appointments to meet with the manager or appropriate staff member who handles menu selection, we were told to show up and pick up the "sample." Because it was a pick-up affair and I had a million other wedding responsibilities, my husband went to get it alone. Had I been present, we would have turned around and left, with the food sitting there, and the cashier with a dumbfounded look on her face. Really. But sadly I wasn't there, and my husband tries too hard to be nice and polite, so despite their rudeness, he paid them. The food was disgusting. It was trying way too hard to be creative by making trendy, pseudo-expensive ingredients go together when they shouldn't. At least we didn't make the mistake of hiring them for our wedding. We also haven't made the mistake of returning since.

Nary a Sunday dinner at my parent's house goes by without something on the table from Luigi & Giovanni. Marble-sized spheres of marinated fresh mozzarella, toothy green olives touched with red pepper flakes and split long hot peppers stuffed with breadcrumbs, ricotta cheese or sausage appear weekly, to my belly's endless joy. These sort of prepared foods are where L&G really shines -- they also do catering, so they have the technique down for creating edibles that appeal whether hot, room temp or cold from the fridge. Their butcher and deli does it right, as well -- this is the only place my step-mom will buy raw chicken to make cutlets, or the "meatloaf mix" of ground beef, pork and veal for meatballs. Though their red sauce is not bad, and super convenient when you don't have time to make it yourself, my gravy is better (classic Italian kitchen machismo, right here).

I love pork. Perhaps it's because I am a native son of Iowa, the top US producer of pork. Perhaps it's because at the university I went to, we crowned a Pork Queen each Fall and for me pork has become a Freudian web of desire, excitement and a drive to be satiated. Whatever the reason, I crave succulent roasted pork. It is visceral and real. Unfortunately finding finger-licking, awe-inspiring roast pork in my neck of the woods is no easy task. Oh yeah there are abundant claims of mouth-watering porky deliciousness. But they are usually wishful-yet-empty boasts for pork that is dry and tasteless. Happily I have found a place nearby where I can reliably "get my pork on." Granted it is only available on Saturdays, "until it's gone," but hey it's a guaranteed fix. Saturdays Luigi and Giovanni's roast a pig and offer a roast pork sandwich that warms the core of my Iowa-born-and-bred heart! Yummmmm! Hot, drippy porky goodness.

So Luigi and Giovanni is my go to place for lunch meat, butcher, cheese, and odds and ends. However I had a Halloween party and decided to order sliced roast pork from there. I placed the order the day before my party and was told it was not problem it will be ready by 2. It's 2:00 and I am waiting and no one can find my order. Not to mention the fact that I stood there for 20 minutes and no one said a word to me like Can I help you at all. My order is missing, the woman behind the counter then finds my order for the provolone but no pork....seriously? You write 1 order on 2 different forms? Then she swears that I ordered roast beef. I was confused. Either way they were able to slice me my 6 1/2 lbs or pork and 3 lbs of provolone instantly. Packaged beautifully..etc. I love this place but get it together. I would suggest placing orders in person and getting a receipt.

I cant say enough about the Integrity of this caterer. I was so entirely impressed by their willingness on very short notice to pull together with both style and grace, not ONE but TWO events on the same day for our family. One for over 300 people and the other for a hundred, in two different locations. As our catering need was a funeral, they were sensitive to all of the details that one might forget on such an event- Details even that weren't necessarily expected of them. Luigi himself- was present and assured me that everything was taken care of. Food: one word. AWESOME. Presentation: A+ Simple, but striking Service: A+ Genuinely Kind People. Willing. We didn't have to pay a single thought to any detail. I knew they had everything under control, and that they could figure out and fix any glitch. Quantity of Food: More than Enough. They took away any worry we might have had about not knowing how much food we needed- since we didn't know how many people to expect. Logistics: A+ Two different events. Two different Crews. Leftovers were delivered from the first location to the second, and seamlessly. I can't say enough about the Hospitality, Integrity, thoughtfulness and genuine kindness Bestowed on our family and all of our guests. Although all of the servers were focused on the large job they were attending to, each one I spoke with gave condolences. I would Highly Recommend Luigi and Giovanni's for any catering event.

As many who read my reviews may surmise, I am a failed writer. I am inspired my the memoirs of , David Sedaris, Augusten Burroughs as well as the gripping fiction of Stephen King and , yes, J.K. Rowling. Ive tried my own shaky hand at writing, novellas, screenplays, and even a childrens story based on some tales I made up for my own kids, on the fly one night. Im reviewing Luigi and Giovanni caterers ( which is also the local Colonial Meat Market in Newtown Square, and I cant help but be reminded of a screenplay treatment based on an experience I had there. Its hard not to love your corner store. Making spaghetti? Forgot the sauce? Ill run over. Battery in your remote died? It'll just take a minute. Last minute dinner plans? Ill be right back. That is what L&G means to me. I would never go shopping there. God no, the prices are too high. But I cant tell you how many countless times L&G saved my ass over the years. One time in particular, the time that inspired the story, I was a new father, and we had done the unthinkable and run out of baby wipes. I , the hero, would go to the corner store and pick some up for my new...family. The sky looked threatening but I proceeded onward. I guess people were getting ready to hunker down for a storm, cause it was more crowded than usual. I waited in the line with the baby wipes and a Snickers bar ( hey, I deserved it!) All of the sudden the sky just opened up and it rained harder than id ever seen it. The lights flickered, and we all watched and waited for it to break. After a few minutes it did break, those types of storms usually dont last long. I walked the 1 block home with the baby wipes and an empty Snickers wrapper, stopping to shake a rain soaked branch over my head 9 so I would be sufficiently wet. I returned triumphant , as I had once again provided for my family. I wont bore you with the screenplay idea, which I called " Corner Store". Lets just say that the storm was worse and the errand was more important, and oh yeah, there was a murderer loose on the streets too. L&G has 2 parts , the convienence store / deli / meat market on one side and the Italian caterers on the other. If any of you have paisans from the old country its a great place to get them something that will remind them of home, as they have many products imported from Italia. their food is incredible, many of their sauces and gravys are put in plastic containers and sold to the public. Their deli makes a decent Hoagie and pork sandwich. On weekends they have a roast pig out front that theyll cut a slab off and make you a mouth watering sandwich. their staff is always friendly and attentive, often making you feel like family. Sometimes their prices are high, but its often worth it. Its funny about old friends like L&G. You start to take them for granted. The other day we didnt have dinner plans ,once again. I walked over to L&G without a real plan . They have something new where they have what seems to be leftovers from catering, packaged in individual servings. Ive never been to something catered by them but ive heard they are great. I decided on a big slab of lasagne that cost about $6. we ate it with some bread and veggies and it was one of the best meals we had in a long time. Anyone with a family knows its nice to have a quick go-to meal in emergencies, and L&G provides that nicely. Sometimes we have to be reminded of things like that.

I am conflicted writing this review because anyone who knows good food has found this place already and anyone who doesn't know good food doesn't deserve to know about this store. L&G is unique in that they carry a variety and quality of goods that you cannot find elsewhere (easily). To me, the centerpieces of the store are: the butcher shop and the bread. They carry very good quality meats and they really care about what they're doing. Their Italian cold cuts are great, but you have to be careful at times regarding who is doing the slicing. If you get a neophyte, make sure they slice it thin enough; chewy prosciutto isn't good. Finally, the bread that they carry is awesome. You won't find this stuff at the Acme. The people who work there are very nice. If you're doing DIY Italian cooking, this is the place for your meat and bread. Also, get a pork sangwich w/sharp provolone and broccoli rabe on Saturday or Sunday . It's the gold standard.

It was Saturday. In the summer that means L&G roasts a whole pig, debones it and shreds it up for delicious sandwiches. These are sold right outside in the front along with meatballs, wings, chicken cutlets and other things. I was there for the pork. I got mine with their homemade hot peppers and hard provolone cheese. The meat was hot and juicy. The only problem is the roll - it couldn't hold up to the meat. In other words, it fell apart. Its a great pork sammy - not in the upper stratosphere of the best pork sandwich Tommy DiNics. Their's is amazing - voted best sammy in the USA by the Travel channel -and the hard roll holds up. Still, this is a delicious pork sandwich and highly recommended. I also purchased some sweet peppers, sausage and onions to eat later along with some rolls. The sauce was good. This was good. Also wanted to try their macaroni so I purchased some manicotti for dinner the next day. That was very disappointing. The gravy was not good neither was the macaroni. Springfield Pasta Company, P&S Raviolis, Tallutos and Scaramuzzas all blow this out of the water. I was not happy this heavy Italian specialty store wasn't better for the price. This place is on the high end - I dont mind if Im getting food that's worth it. I will be back for the pork sammy, the sausage and peppers and to try some other things.
